Whangarei Falls

Today was another beautiful and sunny day. It was drizzling a little in the afternoon, but with temperatures around 23C I didn’t even mind getting a little wet.

Where did I leave you in my last post? In Coromandel. Well, the drive from Coromandel took me up north past Auckland on the motorway (yes, there’s a motorway – who would have tought? Kidding, of course there is) to Whangarei. It got really warm during the day and stopping for lunch along the coast line the thermometer of my car showed 29C. My warmer inside and I had the feeling, that the AC wouldn’t work properly. The afternoon in Whangarei brought a few showers and I used the time to relax and plan the last few days.

Today I started with a visit of the Whangarei Falls just a few minutes drive from the camp site. A little too late for photos, but the falls were just beautiful. The sun still tried to clear all morning clouds and not many people were up. I continued along the scenic route to Russell, a historic town in the Bay of Islands. Beautifully preserved heritage buildings and a lovely waterfront with cafés, restaurants and hotels. I just enjoyed the afternoon walking along the water, having lunch and sitting down to read a book for a while.

So I am enjoying a few sunny summer days here in New Zealand right now. Two more stops and then I will have to give the camper back in Auckland. But that’s just next week… I have a rough idea where to drive tommorrow. And then I’ll find a location for the last night out.

For now, I’m enjoying Russell. The sun is setting. I just fear, it’s still too cloudy for a clear night sky.
